From Coast to Coast; My First Half-Nation Tour: Part 1, Seoul > Daegu.

At the end of September we had a 5 day break for Chuseok, South Korea's harvest festival. Similar to American Thanksgiving, families gather together and take part in various traditions. I, however, am an orphan in South Korea! The holiday had approached way quicker than I had anticipated and I had no plans! No family close by and nothing to do. I knew some friends were heading to the east coast to visit family. So I thought, why not make a tour out of it? Due to the fact that my friends were visiting family in various cities there was an ever revolving door of riders coming and going. With me being the constant. The tour looked something like this:

Seoul>Daegu>Busan>Donghae>Seoul. 5 days and approximately 1100 km (670 m) of ever changing landscape and friends!

As mentioned in my previous post - motorcycles are not allowed on the expressway! This made for a very interesting trip ... definitely the scenic tour of South Korea. It also resulted in my first, very exciting, run in with the law! (More on that later...)

The first leg of the tour was from Seoul to Daegu. About 320 km (200 m) and 8 hours (including breaks for sanity, hunger prevention, and the preservation of my bum)

The plan was to leave at 5:00 a.m and beat the holiday traffic. You know, drive leisurely, grab some grub, take some pictures. At 5:00 a.m my alarm went off, I got up, looked out the window and low and behold: it was pouring. The general consensus was to push departure time to about 8 a.m and hope the rain stopped. Luckily it did, and we were on our way!
